Karting L'Escala

The track

Karting L'Escala is located at kilometer 2 of the GI-632, the highway connecting L'Escala with Bellcaire d'Empordà, in the Baix Empordà region. It is operated by the same company that runs the Jocs L'Escala amusement park, and in fact, the listing was under that name: on signs and on its own website, the track is listed as Karting L'Escala.

What sets it apart from the rest of the Costa Brava is that it’s open year-round, with the sole exception of December 25 and January 1. In a province where most tracks significantly scale back operations from October through Easter—if they don’t close entirely—this makes it one of the few reliable options for driving in the middle of winter without having to call ahead.

The fleet includes four categories: kids’ karts, two-seaters, standard karts, and super karts—the latter equipped with 390 cc engines, which is a high displacement for a rental kart. And here’s a handy feature: sessions aren’t all the same length—you can choose between 6, 12, or 18 minutes. Six minutes is little more than a quick test run, and eighteen minutes is really tiring, so being able to choose prevents you from either being left wanting more or paying for time you won’t use.

The same operator runs a second track in L’Estartit, in Torroella de Montgrí, which is open only from Holy Week through the end of September, and an amusement park in L’Escala that’s open on summer evenings, from June 20 to August 31. These are three different attractions with a single phone number, so when you call, be sure to specify which one you’re going to.
