The track

Karting Los Molinos is located in Noja, on the coast of Cantabria, next to the campground of the same name. And the first thing you need to know is what it doesn’t have: there are no karts for children. The minimum height requirement is 1.45 meters, so a young child cannot drive here, even when accompanied by an adult. I’m mentioning this first because it’s what determines whether this is a good option for a family.

For everyone else, the track is 525 meters long with a minimum width of 6.5 meters and features nineteen turns. That figure is what defines it: one turn every 28 meters—in other words, a track with not a single straightaway where you can relax, and everything comes down to your driving skills. It belongs to the AEPKA, the Spanish Association of Kart Tracks, and claims to comply with the safety standards required by that association.

The fleet consists of a single model, and they’re proud of it: all the karts are 270 cc, what they call “super karts.” They have two pedals—accelerator and brake—and are equipped with a system that allows instructors to remotely cut off the throttle if something happens on the track. Sessions last ten minutes.

Their specialty is group races, which they organize like a mini Grand Prix: free practice, timed practice, starting grid, podium, and cava for the top three finishers. It’s the perfect plan for a farewell party or a bachelor/bachelorette party, and they market it as such. Birthday parties require a minimum of six kids and can be topped off with a snack at the bar-cafeteria next door. Free parking is available for customers for the duration of the activity.

It’s open every day: Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and the rest of the week only in the afternoon, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. On Saturdays, it’s a good idea to ask about availability for individual sessions, since group races always require a reservation.

And the same warning applies to almost all go-kart tracks in Cantabria: there’s no driving in the rain, and the facilities close. If the weather looks iffy, call ahead at 638 91 90 70.
