The track
Karting LaRoca is located in Quijas, in the municipality of Reocín, in the interior of Cantabria. It has an unusual history: it was designed by Daniel Sordo Cayuso—father of rally driver Dani Sordo—and opened in 2000. The track itself is billed as the professional birthplace of Dani Sordo, the only Spaniard to have competed continuously in the World Rally Championship.
The karting track occupies the center of the complex: 800 meters long by 10 meters wide, with electronic timing and a giant screen inside the circuit itself that displays the lap times of all participants and who holds the fastest lap. This turns a single session into an event that can be watched from the sidelines—which is exactly what most small circuits lack.
The fleet has five categories—Junior, Normal, Super, Compet, and two-seater—and sessions last eight minutes. For groups and companies, it organizes races for ten or more participants, with no upper limit. And there’s one detail that solo drivers will appreciate: you can also race on your own and get your lap times instantly, without needing to be part of a group.
The complex isn’t just about karting. It also features a 1,300-meter-long, 12-meter-wide rallycross track and a 4x4 area on natural terrain, both of which are restricted to private and pre-arranged use, events, and driving courses. It also offers driving instruction.
The facilities are well-suited for those bringing their own equipment: parking for 200 vehicles, and a paddock separate from the parking lot that can accommodate racing karts and trailers, with a separate entrance to the pits. The visitor area offers a full view of the track, a rest area, a snack bar, and a shop. The 300-square-meter multipurpose hall, used for events and training, is accessible to people with disabilities.
Two important notes before you go. The hours are seasonal: in winter, it’s open Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and on other days only for pre-booked groups; in summer, hours are extended Monday through Friday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on weekends and holidays from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM. And second, which is no small matter in Cantabria: if it rains, the track closes for road safety reasons. It’s a good idea to call ahead if the weather looks iffy.
